- - - - -THE OPPORTUNITYWe have an immediate opening in Greenville,
South Carolina for a Motorsport Performance Analyst. Join Michelin
Motorsports to support external race teams by analyzing tire usage,
conducting on-track vehicle data analysis, and developing virtual
tire models for off-line and Driver-in-the-Loop simulations. You'll
be on the cutting edge of tire and vehicle development through
collaboration with internal R&D staff and our access to
advanced tools and methods. In this role, all your efforts will
focus to enhance the interaction between tire performance, vehicle
balance, and the sustainability of motorsport.Situated in
Greenville, South Carolina, the sprawling Michelin Americas
Research Center (MARC) campus is home to approximately 650 talented
employees, including materials researchers, product designers,
scientists, engineers, test technicians and individuals in a
variety of support roles.Our team contributes to crafting, testing,
and industrializing the innovative products that earn Michelin's
deserving place as one of the world's leading tire
manufacturers.WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Tire usage analysis:
- Conduct studies using a virtual laptime simulation and/or
processing vehicle data to understand the physical demands placed
on the tire
- Tire measurement:
- Exploit existing machine animations to characterize tires for
modeling and data package generation
- On-Track Vehicle data analysis:
- Collaborate with internal tire developers, modelers, as well as
external customers to provide tire-centric information for
improving the performance of the vehicle
- Simulation:
- Develop and adapt relevant tire models for use in our
customers' Driver-in-the-Loop Simulators
- Develop as a customer-facing expert at simulator sessions at a
customer's facility
- Perform interpretation of tire physics to support tire and
vehicle model development
- Develop the tools and methods required to execute performance
analysis missions
- Work in collaboration with Michelin's internal R&D
staff
- Promote our models and provide support to our customersWHAT YOU
WILL BRING
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to
interact in a professional manner with external partners,
suppliers, customers, and colleagues at all levels of the
organization
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics,
Automotive/Motorsports Engineering
- Experience in performing data analysis, including data
cleaning, transformation, and visualization, using Python or
MATLAB
- Experience in software-based tool development. If the tool you
need doesn't exist, the ability come up with new solutions is key
to success
- Attention to detail, data accuracy
- Understanding of physics and math relating to vehicle
dynamics
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically - often
on week-ends in support of IMSA/WEC race calendar (up to 10-15
weekend events per year, plus joint test/simulation
sessions)DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- Experience with tire modeling (MF-Tyre, MFSwift, TameTire,
Ftire)
- Experience using simulation tools to optimize vehicle
performance
- Experience analyzing on-track performance through both
application vehicle dynamics principles and statistical
methods
- Familiar with Motorsports data analysis software eg: WinTAX,
HHTiming, Pi Toolbox, Atlas, MotecInspire Motion for Life: Apply
