The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator, in
collaboration with Trauma Acute Care
Surgery (TACS) Leadership, is responsible for the Trauma
Performance Improvement and Patient Safety
(PIPS) program. The Trauma PI Coordinator works closely with the
Trauma Medical Director, Trauma
Program Manager and the Trauma Registrar(s) to assure PAR meets all
trauma center requirements
related to performance improvement. Serves as designated injury
prevention professional.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of a nursing program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
2 years experience in trauma/surgical nursing.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or
NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BLS Required
PALS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PIPS
Oversees the daily operations of the Trauma PIPS program.
Performs concurrent and retrospective case reviews to identify
provider and/or system-related
improvement opportunities.
Manages the data collection, monitoring and reporting of identified
PI issues, ensuring action
plans are implemented and loop closure completed.
Participates in regional, state and national PI initiatives;
including Regional Trauma Advisory
Committee (RTAC), Georgia Committee on Trauma Excellence (GCTE),
Georgia Trauma
Commission (GTC), Georgia Committee on Trauma (GA-COT) and Trauma
Quality Improvement
Program (TQIP).
Maintains all Trauma PIPS program files and paperwork; including
agendas, minutes and
databases.
Creates reports, tables, charts and graphs that accurately reflect
the Trauma Program's PIPS
activities and data.
Presents Trauma PIPS data to various hospital committees or outside
agencies at the request of
TACS Leadership.
Creates and maintains the Trauma PI dashboard showing all required
key performance
indicators.
Collaborates with the Trauma Program Coordinator to assure the
Trauma PIPS program is driven
by Trauma Registry data as required by the ACS-COT.
Develops, implements and maintains a process for reviewing and
analyzing TQIP reports; shares
findings with TACS Leadership on a regular basis.
Assists TACS Leadership in the creation of practice management
guidelines when indicated by
TQIP reports, Trauma Registry data and/or trauma case review.
Collaborates with organizational committees when indicated.
Assists various departments, including Intensive Care Unit,
Surgical Floors, Surgical Services,
Radiology, Emergency Department and others with Trauma PIPS
initiatives.
Trauma Registry
Competently performs Trauma Registry functions including; chart
abstraction, data input and
AIS/ICD-10 coding.
Assists Trauma Registrars with complex chart reviews to ensure
accurate capture of diagnosis,
procedures and complications.
Participates in Trauma Registry data validation processes.
Participates in monthly TQIP conferences and quizzes.
Utilizes the Trauma Registry Outcomes Module to capture, monitor
and report PI issues.
Collaborates with Trauma Program Coordinator and Trauma
Registrar(s) to continually improve
all Trauma Registry workflow processes, utilizing Quest/Lean tools
when appropriate.
Education and Training
Assists in the orientation of new Trauma and Acute Care Surgery
(TACS) Service staff and
providers in areas pertaining to the Trauma PIPS program.
Participates in regional, state and national conferences at the
request of TACS Leadership.
Obtains annual continued education as required by the ACS-COT, TACS
Leadership and PAR.
Actively participates in trauma and PI-related professional
organizations.
Compliance
Maintains awareness of all current state and national regulatory
requirements related to trauma
performance improvement. Assures information is shared with TACS
Leadership on a routine
basis.
Ensures the Trauma Program is compliant with the American College
of Surgeons Committee on
Trauma's (ACS-COT) standards regarding integration of the Trauma
PIPS program with the
hospital's overall PI program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Demonstrates expertise with computer software (emphasis on Excel,
Word and PowerPoint).
Demonstrates expertise with database management systems.
Strong attention to detail with emphasis on organizational,
analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills working with those of diverse
professional and personal
backgrounds.
Ability to work both collaboratively with a variety of team members
and independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of Trauma Registry and Trauma Registry report writing
functions.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities.
